May 31, 2017: KJZZ: Group Looks at Arizona Juvenile Justice System

ALWAYS partnered with Children’s Action Alliance and the University of Arizona SIROW to work on juvenile justice reform related to the collateral consequences of public delinquency records and outstanding fines and fees. This work along with commitment from judges and an Arizona Supreme Court subcommittee resulted in legislative changes in 2019 that allows juvenile court judges greater discretion to waive outstanding fines and fees so that they are eligible for set asides and record destruction

May 15, 2017: ALWAYS hosts Youth and Justice Reception with Judge Colleen McNally as guest speaker, to recognize the 50th anniversary of In re Gault, a landmark juvenile rights case based on an Arizona case

April 5, 2017: An ALWAYS case inspired Senate Bill 1422, legislation that changed Arizona law so that trafficking survivors who were charged with municipal prostitution violations can now be eligible for vacating convictions in Arizona

February 27, 2017:

ALWAYS hosts a Youth and Justice Summit with social workers, case workers, lawyers, judges, and community members to train about the legal issues often facing vulnerable youth. The event was attended by Chief Justice Scott Bales, municipal judges, Mayor Stanton and many other community leaders

January 20, 2017: ALWAYS co-hosts three day trafficking training seminar with Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking

October 14, 2016: State Bar of Arizona Domestic Violence seminar (ALWAYS CEO January Contreras serves as faculty)

January 29, 2016: ALWAYS has participated in various public education campaigns about human trafficking, including through a Univision hotline
